Many people have been debating for years the actual benefits of negative ions. Over the past hundred years, there have been numerous studies on the matter. Studies on the effect of negative ions and the digestive system, mental health, and cardiovascular are just a few that can be found.
Negative ions are atoms — or molecules — that have lost or gained one or more electrons. When the atom is neutral, the ion becomes electrically charged. Air, for example, is naturally ionized. Air has a balance between negative and positive ions in natural spaces.
Positive ions are found in abundance in electronic devices; such as computers, televisions, and phones. Air pollution — especially in industrial zones and crowded cities — has a high amount of positive ions.
These harmful ions can also be found in toxic carpeting, paint, and upholstery. Pet and human dander is also a type of positive ion. These types of ions have a negative effect on a person’s health.
Some of these effects include depression, mood swings, and feeling ill. Its counterpart seems to have the opposite effect — despite being called negative. The only major downside to negative ions is the fact they are barely found in small spaces, like indoors, or in areas with high amounts of air pollution.
Due to this many people have been seeking ways to increase negative ions into their systems. People have used ion generators, negative ion clothing, and negative ion water to add more of these amazing ions into their bodies.
